Radio in That Wonderful Year 1940 - CD$12.95 (2 hours on 2 Compact Discs) RADIO IN 1940 – BLONDIE (4-15-40) Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake star as Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead. Dagwood buys a whole truckload of seeds for only $25. THE SHADOW (3-24-40) "The Plot That Failed" starring Bill Johnstone as Lamont Cranston with Marjorie Anderson as the lovely Margo Lane. The Shadow encounters six strange machines around the city. CAVALCADE OF AMERICA (5-28-40) "Show Boat." The story of the famed Edna Ferber novel turned musical by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II. Selections from the show are performed by the Ken Christie Choir and the orchestra under the direction of Donald Voorhees. ARCH OBOLER'S PLAYS (3-16-40) "The Most Dangerous Game" starring Ronald Colman. The play is Oboler's view of the classic adventure story. The hunter becomes the hunted when a couple is stranded on a tropical island.

ONE MAN’S FAMILY (12-28-41) Book 40, Chapter 13, the last program of 1941. On New Year’s Eve, at the end of the year which saw the start of WW II for the U.S., the Barbour family reflects on their fears and concerns for the future.

COMMAND PERFORMANCE #1 (3-1-42) The premier show in the long-running series for military audiences during WW II. Eddie Cantor emcees and introduces singer Bea Wain, comedian Danny Kaye, singer Dinah Shore, actress Merle Oberon, and Bert Gordon as the "Mad Russian." Also presented for servicemen around the world is a recording of Don Dunphy and Bill Corum describing the 1941 Joe Louis-Buddy Baer heavyweight championship fight, won by Louis who knocked out Baer in the first round. NATIONAL BARN DANCE (12-5-42) One year after Pearl Harbor, emcee Joe Kelly presents a patriotic show starring the Hoosier Hot-Shots; LuluBelle and Scotty; the Dinning Sisters; Arkie, the Arkansas Woodchopper; Tom, Dick and Harry; banjoist Eddie Peabody.

Before she dies, a woman who suffered a fatal accident at sea, vows to "come back" to her husband, who is convinced that she will return to him. NICK CARTER, MASTER DETECTIVE (8-2-43) "Murder in the Crypt" starring Lon Clark as Nick Carter, searching for the Royal Treasure of King Snafu. LIGHTS OUT (5-11-43) "Murder in the Script Department." Strange things happen to a pair of broadcast studio typists who are given an after-hours assignment to type a 'Lights Out' script written by Arch Oboler. Mercedes McCambridge. AMOS 'n' ANDY (10-8-43) First program in the new half-hour format, first program broadcast before a live audience and first program with a guest star. Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll appear as radio's all-time favorites. The Kingfish helps Andy find a wife and an apartment in a hurry for the benefit of a rich uncle. Guest is actor Charles Coburn.

MYSTERIOUS TRAVELER (1-6-45) “They Who Sleep,” a journey into the realm of the strange and terrifying. The Traveler tells the story of a man who could change the soul of a human being from one body to the next.

While rehearsing for a role in a local production of "The Mikado," Blackie discovers a dead body. FRED ALLEN SHOW (5-26-46) Guest Jack Benny joins Fred for the last show of the 1945-46 season. Fred strolls down Allen's Alley. Later, Benny sneaks into a 60-cent studio tour and becomes a contestant on Fred's new give-away program, "King for a Day." Cast includes Kenny Delmar, Alan Reed, Minerva Pious, Parker Fennelly. NEW ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (5-13-46) "Case of the Uneasy Chair" starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson. A woman wants Holmes to prove that a man, accused of murdering her father, did not commit the crime.

Casey's friend claims he has been in communication with his dead wife... and he has a photo to prove it. MY FRIEND IRMA (12-15-47) Irma is disappointed because she wants to go dancing but boyfriend Joe doesn't Rhumba. Marie Wilson stars as Irma Peterson, with Cathy Lewis as Jane Stacy, John Brown as Al and Hans Conried as Professor Kropotkin. CHARLIE McCARTHY SHOW (9-21-47) Edgar Bergen with guests Walt Disney and Donald Duck (Clarence Nash) join Charlie, Mortimer Snerd and the cast for their version of Disney's picture, "Fun and Fancy Free."
