When the Moon-Rays recorded the theme from “Creature Features” in 2002 it was because of a love of the old Universal Monster movies of the 30’s and 40’s, and the years in which those movies were made. It was a gentler, more innocent time. It was a time when at Halloween, witches, skeletons, ghosts and jack-o-lanterns were about as scary as it got. Music of the day reflected that innocence and Halloween was no exception. A lot of people today think the genre started with the “Monster Mash” in the 60’s and are not even aware of the Halloween songs from the Big Band era and before.

Here is a collection of songs from the 30’s, 40’s and before that bring out the spirits and memories of those great times. The Moon-Rays recorded these songs in 2008 with faithful respect to the original artists performances.

Here are some of the songs and their original recording dates: You’ve Got Me Voodoo’d – Originally recorded by Louis Armstrong / March,1940. Mr. Ghost Goes Go To Town – Originally recorded by the Jimmy DorseyOrchestra / January, 1936. The Headless Horseman - Originally recorded by Bing Crosby with Vic Schoen’s Orchestra / December, Swingin’ At The Séance – Originally recorded by Glen Miller and his Orchestra (with Marion Hutton on vocals) / March, 1941. Skeletons in the Closet – Originally recorded by Louis Armstrong with Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra August, 1936 for the movie “Pennies From Heaven” Haunted House Blues – Originally recorded by Bessie Smith / January, 1923.... and more!
